Guy Buttery to Perform with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra
In a brand new and most exciting venture, internationally renowned guitarists Guy Buttery and long time collaborater, Nibs van der Spuy are taking their music to a new level. Several of their best known and most loved pieces have been especially arranged for Orchestra, and this synthesis of hauntingly beautiful guitar music with full orchestral parts will be heard for the first time at Crawford College La Lucia’s annual Musical Soirée, where Nibs and Guy will make a guest appearance.
While both Nibs and Guy have reached international success as solo artists, their many years of writing, recording and touring together have culminated in their first collaborative album. In The Shade of the Wild Fig, which will be released internationally later in 2012, has already been described as ‘one of the most anticipated world/folk albums to hit 2012’ (The Star – CD of the Month) and ‘the finest collaboration between two South African musicians available.’ (Fanbible)
Nibs and Guy’s guest performance at Crawford College La Lucia on 3 August promises to be something special. The evening will present Nibs and Guy in a unique performance with the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra. Internationally renowned arranger Chris Letcher and local arranger and well-known cellist, Nina Watson, have arranged a selection of Nibs and Guy’s music specifically for this event.
The evening promises to be an unmatched musical experience and should not be missed!
